Altering your program sequence

As per the University of Alberta Calendar: Faculty of Nursing Academic Standing and Regulation 11:

  1. Students who wish to alter the course sequence of their program as laid out in the calendar, or who have withdrawn from or failed a course must see the Student Advisor immediately to discuss program completion options. Reregistration cannot occur without permission from the Faculty. Students will be competing for available space in nursing courses when returning. Students may be required to enrol in a refresher course prior to proceeding in clinical nursing courses in order to protect the public interest.
  2. Students must follow the required course sequence unless preapproval is given for an alternate sequence. Students may not continue in their Nursing program if an alternate course sequence is not approved. Students must see the Faculty of Nursing Student Advisor immediately to discuss alternative program sequence and approval.

Starting Fall 2018, students altering course sequence may result in their program being delayed for an extended period of time as courses are generally only offered in one term and students cannot progress to the following year until all courses have been completed.

Students who wish to alter the course sequence of their program as laid out in the calendar, or who have withdrawn from or failed a course must see the Student Advisor (nursing.studentadvisor@ualberta.ca) immediately to discuss program completion options. If you have already altered the sequence of your program and have not discussed program completion options, you still need to meet with the Student Advisor.

Please complete the Student Proposal to Alter Program Sequence google form and to discuss at your meeting with the Student Advisor. Please Note: You need to ensure you are accessing the google form from your U of A Account. If cannot access the google form then you need to sign out of your google mail, open a new browser and resign into your email to complete the form.

Please Note: Reregistration cannot occur without permission from the Faculty and students will be competing for available space in nursing courses when returning. Students may be required to enrol in a refresher course prior to proceeding in clinical nursing courses in order to protect the public interest.

Students who alter their sequence will also be required to complete a new set of health and safety forms. Please complete and turn in the OOS Student Checklist.

This is an option that is sometimes available for BScN-Collaborative Program students to complete their degree in December of their final year rather than the following April. This option requires students to take classroom and clinical courses in the Spring/Summer of their final year, and is only available to students who have completed all program course requirements to that point. Please note that the fast-track option is not necessarily available every year – students should watch for announcements on eClass in their third year for more information.
