The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is dedicated to providing learner-centred educational programs that meet the health-care needs of our communities. Our goal is to graduate qualified, compassionate and inquisitive practitioners and researchers accomplished in health-care delivery and scholarship.
We are committed to serving patients and populations by providing a rich interdisciplinary environment of learning, practice, research and public service for all our students and faculty.
Our faculty offers fully accredited programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and ongoing professional development activities. We train physicians, researchers in the clinical and basic sciences, medical laboratory scientists, radiation therapists, dentists and dental hygienists.
Learners are taught in a variety of environments that include: classroom, online, labs, hospital units, ambulatory clinics and community-based teaching sites throughout Alberta. We value collaboration across the health professions and academic disciplines.
The faculty offers a wide range of residencies—more than 50 programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Another important aspect of what we do is to advance medical education by researching the best way to teach doctors and allied health professionals. Our faculty has an endowed chair to help build an even stronger curriculum for the undergraduate MD Program and to further scholarship in medical education by supporting those faculty members who wish to have a career in this field.
Studying how to teach, and teach better, ultimately results in better patient care.
