Pandas Volleyball head coach Laurie Eisler continues to raise the bar for University of Alberta coaches, as she became the first coach in school history to reach 800 career wins with the Pandas victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night.

With the win, Eisler’s overall coaching record now stands at 800-302, with a career Canada West record of 399-152 in this her 28th season coaching the Pandas.

She is also the second women’s volleyball coach in Canadian university sports history to reach the 800-win plateau, behind only Manitoba Bison head coach Ken Bentley, who has over 1,000 wins in 34 seasons.

“What Laurie has done with the Pandas Volleyball program is nothing short of remarkable. The level of consistency that program has shown over the last 28 seasons is incredible,” said Athletic Director Ian Reade. “To have her name above all-time great coaches like Clare Drake and Terry Danyluk is a special accomplishment.”

Eisler set the University of Alberta record for most wins on February 24th, 2017, when she surpassed Clare Drake’s mark of 720.

In her 28 seasons at the University of Alberta, Eisler has won six national championships, 11 Canada West titles, and 15 national medals. She has been named the conference coach of the year seven times, and the national coach of the year three times.

Her 800 career wins are 39 more than Terry Danyluk, who finished his tenure with Golden Bears Volleyball with a 761-224 record. Eisler needs just 17 more Canada West wins to surpass Danyluk’s record of 416 conference victories.
