EDMONTON - Looking to book their tickets to the 2020 Tennis Canada University Championships, the Golden Bears and Pandas Tennis teams hosts the University of British Columbia this Sunday morning in the Western Regional Championship.
The Pandas will open competition with a 9:00 a.m. start time against UBC, with the Bears starting no earlier than 11:30 a.m.
Both Alberta tennis programs are coming off Prairie Regional Championship wins at home two weeks ago, with the Bears and Pandas each defeating Saskatchewan and Calgary in Edmonton.
The Bears and Pandas have captured Western Regional titles for 13-straight seasons, with the Pandas also being the defending Canadian University Champions.
The Pandas will be led by Katie Johnson and Samantha Chapman, who both went undefeated at the Prairie Regional Championship. Ryan Townsend and Neel Phaterpekar will lead the men, with Phaterpekar earning Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week honours for his performances against Calgary and Saskatchewan.
